More Kitchen Fun

The kitchen seems to be the new playroom these days. The boys love to go through the cupboards and discover new toys. They discovered where I keep my colanders.

Mathew likes to walk around with the giant white one on his head. I think he likes that he can see through it so he doesn't walk into things.

Here Nathan has discovered that my red collapsable colander can double as a bon fire pit. He and filled it with "firewood" and got Mathew to join him around the fire.

The Harvey Band

In our new house, the pots and pans are stored in the bottom drawer of the island. They are much easier to get at, for both me and the kids.

Nathan felt that he needed safety goggles... a very wise choice considering Mathew loves to throw things.

I only caught the end of their little jam session on video....

Nathan Says

We had a rough morning. The Jetta wouldn't start... or rather, it would start and then shut down because it thought it was being stolen... long story. Anyway, I was very frustrated and my frustration was only being fueled by the 8 million questions that Nathan was launching at me.

Mom, why won't the car start?
Did it start?
Why didn't it start that time?
Can I go outside?
Does it work now?
Why not?
Will I go to school today?
How will we get there?
Does the car work now?"

On and on it went. Finally, after accepting defeat and calling a neighbor for help, I walked into the kitchen where Nathan turned to me and said, "Mom?" I resisted the urge to yell, "WHAT!!" and instead said, "Yes Nathan?". He got real serious and said, "When the car doesn't work, it's called a Bummer." I couldn't help it.... a tiny smile started at my mouth and didn't stop until it reached my ears. Kids are so good for you.

Soccer

I signed Nathan up for Step Up to Soccer at school. They take the kids to a field near the school and teach them some soccer basics. At Nathan's age, each kid gets their own ball to practice with so no one has to wait patiently for their turn!

One of the exercises they do is to scatter cones around the field and then call out colors. The kids have to maneuver around the cones and only knock down the ones of that color. Here's Nathan knocking down a yellow one.

Running around in the sun is fun, but tiring. So sometimes you need to take a break.

Here's Nathan watching the instructor demonstrate an exercise. I love this photo.

4th of July

We enjoyed the July 4 this year by relaxing and hanging out in the new neighborhood. We attended a backyard barbeque and the Lake Elmo parade, and watched neighborhood fireworks on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night. Nathan enjoyed watching them from a distance. Sparklers and Pop-Its were Nathan's favorite this year. He spent a lot of time getting to know some of the neighborhood kids, Anna, Elizabeth, Joe, and Wyatt to name a few.
