Swimming Lessons

I signed both boys up for swimming lessons at the Courage Center. Nathan is in Level 1. It's his first class without a parent in the water with him. His instructor, Sara, is very friendly and outgoing. Nathan did great at his first lesson.

Mathew took the Waterbabies class. Chris went with him. He tolerated the class pretty well, even smiled a few times! By the end of the 30 minute class, he was tired and nearly asleep on Chris' shoulder.

Mr. Mathew

Boo Boo is growing so fast. He has several words, among them are the following:
ma (mom)
da (dad, duck, and dog)
mo (more)
voo (sound a cow makes)
kak (sound a duck makes)
ba (book, bear)
no

His comprehension is great and he is very independent (he understands simple instructions and choses when he wants to follow them). He also has an adorable wicked streak.

He's getting awfully good with the shape sorter toys, matching up shapes and colors. And he's developing an interest in puzzles. He gets so excited when he gets a piece in the right spot. It involve a lot of squealing and clapping!

Nathan Says

While reading a book about sharks together:

Nathan: (holding up his hand to interrupt my reading) Mom, the thresher shark has a loooong tail. When it sees fish, it bams them (punches air with fist) with its tail to stunned them. Then, UMP! It eats them up.

The Concept of Time

I am often frustrated by time. When I want it to pass slowly, it flies. When I want it to go quickly, it crawls. Last week seems like forever ago, but last year seems like yesterday. Next month never gets here, but next year will be here before I know it. Seems complex.

Nathan has a much simpler concept of time. If it happened today, it happened today. If it happened before today, it happened yesterday. If it is going to happen after today, it happens tomorrow. So last week, last month, and last year are all yesterday. Likewise, next week, next month, and next year are all tomorrow. Seems simple.

Nathan Asks

Road construction has us taking the scenic route to school these days, and we often drive past several large ponds. This morning on the way to school:

Nathan: Mom, are those made of fresh water or salty water?
Mom: Those ponds are fresh water.
Nathan: Okay. So there are no sharks in there.
